Piece Descriptions

Juan Carlos Anguiano
You Are the Ghost I Couldn't Cover
"This piece is a personal experience of being a gay artist and falling for a guy who played the cards right. He carefully broke down all my walls and made me feel amazing. I ended up glorifying him and seeing him as a god only for him to disappear out of the blue and "ghost" me. I see him in every object, place, or dream we experienced together or talked about. In the end out of all my past loves he became the one ghost that haunts me the most."
My Queer Heart Became a Cactus
"This piece I created in response to my Mexican culture and gender roles. I painted my version of a queer goddess and she is not wearing feminine attire. I also wanted to express the pain of handing over my broken heart and having this amazing queer goddess turn my heart into a cactus with thorns and flowers. The heart becomes a cactus in order to be more protective and accepting of love. I wanted the queer goddess to represent an embrace of identity without conforming to traditional values. We should all be free and safe to be LGBTQIA+ and the queer goddess can mend our broken hearts if we need it."
Dream and Exit
"Love is Love, this piece is about accepting yourself and allowing yourself to love others. The dream becomes true when you believe in it and that is your cue to exit into reality."

Mel Davis
Flowers of Pride
"I created this piece using the language of flowers and the colors of the pride flag. Carnations stand for pride and beauty; Dahlias stand for diversity, positive change, strength and kindness; and finally the Gladiolus stands for strength of character. All of these flowers together give a great description of our community and the people in it."

Yuki Amira
Be Proud
"Be proud of who you are."
Love is All You Need
"Love is all someone needs to be happy."
